Our financial clearance date has arrived. We were contacted by our director, and we have been officially cleared financially in order to depart for Africa! We thank you all for your prayers and generous financial support. We know that many contributed very sacrificially, and it is our prayer for all of you that as you have given, “it will be given to you” and that “a good portion—packed down, firmly shaken, and overflowing—will fall into your lap,” (Luke 6:38) with which you may continue to minister to others.
The next step for us is to make travel arrangements to arrive in Peachtree City, Georgia on August 19th. We will need to spend two days at Africa Inland Mission’s U.S. office before departing for Nairobi on August 21st. Now we can begin packing and preparing for travel. It will be hectic, but thankfully, we don’t need to sell a house or make arrangements for furniture or cars to be shipped. We will most likely travel with ten pieces of luggage, packing primarily soft items. Any durable goods we need to buy can be purchased over the course of the next few months in Kenya. From what we’ve learned, most missionaries at RVA begin by renting the items they need cheaply (furniture, household goods, kitchen items), then slowly buy their own goods locally. I expect that is what we will do.
People may be wondering, “Now that you are financially cleared to depart for the field, what are your continuing financial needs? Our monthly support target of $5,230 will probably remain the same for the next year, but it will rise as our children begin attending school themselves at the Rift Valley Academy. Adam will start Kindergarten next fall.
In addition, we will now begin receiving funds to purchase a vehicle in Kenya. That will cost nearly $15,000. Some have suggested we take our minivan to Africa. Freight alone would be expensive, but Kenya, as a former British colony, has roads designed for driving on the left. Contributions to our ministry can still be made from our financial support page.
We are very excited about this news, and it is just one more indication of the Lord’s direction in our lives. Thank you for playing such an important part in his plan to take the gospel to Africa’s unreached.
